Mama Victoria Genevieve

I don’t know your thoughts on this but… WHERE DID 2017 GO?

This year has flown by (more so than any other for me) and I’m not complaining... it's been a fantastic year with only a few bumps in the road for a change.   So on that note, whether your year has been good or bad, I’ll give you the run down on the best part of the year…Christmas Party Fashion!

I’m not one to shy away from a bit of sparkle, glitz and shimmer and this year is no exception. In fact, it's bolder and brighter than ever before and this in itself is something to celebrate.

One thing you’ll notice this party season is the amount of colour options available and this year we are going bright and sparkly! My two absolute favourite pieces have to be a sequin knee length skirt from Miss Selfridge, I have to confess I did not spot this myself - I spied it on the catwalk at Stylist Live and I was instantly sold. The best bit, which I found out upon purchasing while leaving the main stage, is that it comes in two other equally stunning colours and now I cant decide which one to buy.

This is so beautiful you could wear it with something very simple on top, but I’ve got a feeling it would look AMAZING with a rainbow coloured roll neck or something colour clashing and killer sparkly heels, I’m thinking the more Edina Monsoon the better (for those of you too young to know who I’m talking about... think Ab Fab).

But if you wanted to do colour in a more delicate feminine way then what about this beauty from Marks and Spencer?  This dress just requires a simple diamanté shoe and long earrings with a similar feel. Try these from Scouting for Pearls ...

Although I’d probably have to go with something more like this ...

There are two things that always crop up in a clients’ wardrobe, two things that may not make sense for 48 weeks of the year.  But it’s best to keep hold of them or you’ll be running around looking for the same thing every year...the velvet and sequin ensembles.

I dare anyone to tell me that they haven’t once owned a velvet jacket, if you have one lurking at the back of your wardrobe then now is the time to unleash the beast. Wear it on repeat all the way through until January 3rd, then you’ll know you not only looked fabulous but you shopped your wardrobe and did Christmas in style!

The sequin dress is a thing of Christmas and New Year dreams. They require minimum effort as they don’t need much in the way of accessories, all you have to do is get your make-up right, whip that hair up and sparkle like the fairy on top of the Christmas tree. What’s not to love? Try these that I’ve found on my travels...

Sparkly Sequin Long Sleeve Shift Dress - Marks & Spencers

So go forth and sparkle - it's Christmas and although you may not get loads of wear out of what you buy, just think “Do I feel absolutely amazing in this”? If the answer is YES, you know the score. It's time to SHINE!

It’s probably sods law that on the day that this is published it will be boiling hot outside and we will be discussing how we’re having an Indian Summer, BUT as it’s currently 14 degrees, raining and foggy outside (not to mention I’m wearing cashmere bed socks at my desk, FANCY I know) I will talk to you about what you should be wearing and buying for Autumn/Winter 2017!

If there is one colour your should be buying it's RED, red knitwear, red dresses, red lipstick, red coat, RED everything and you can really go to town on it this season.  When it comes to red you can either go along the lines of ‘more is more’ or just 'a suggestion of' by adding a red scarf with red nails for example.

I’m totally in love with this Red Coat from H&M

And this Red Dress….

And if you’re as daring as me I’d totally wear both at the same time with a pair of metallic boots... or go OTT and wear red boots or trainers too. These are the perfect trainer to add a bit of bling to your Autumn/Winter Wardrobe and don't get me started on how comfortable they are.

A trend that has continued from Summer, the humble Kimono. Worn over a cami or T-Shirt in the summer months can now be worn over a thin knit or my favourite, a cashmere jumper. When the cold really sets in try layering a cashmere jumper, leather jacket and ‘dark’ kimono over the top for an elegant alternative to a Camo Jacket. I love this one from Zara.

All you need to do is wear a black pair of jeans, a jumper and throw a kimono over the top. Job Done.

Pearl Studs

Pearls on EVERYTHING!! Ok so I saw this trend a few years ago at a high fashion press day and it was when metal studs were the thing.  When I saw Pearl Studs I was like ‘YES’ - elegant studding this will definitely take off, and surprise surprise it has. Boots, jeans, jackets all embellished with pearls, it's not quite Pearly Kings and Queens it's more romantic rock chic. Here are a few examples:

Floral Dresses and Chunky Knits

One fail safe fashion trend is a floral dress. This is set to be the one outfit you need in your life and when it's that simple it would be rude not to at least give it a try. Think more GUCCI than ‘high street florals’, think clashing colours and prints with a dash of red, all dressed up with a sock fitting ankle boot or dressed down with a simple minimal trainer.  Take a look at H&M and &OtherStories

There is a very luxurious season ahead filled with glamour and femininity. Embrace it, go for it and's just clothes, it's just clothes you choose to wear that make you look and feel the way you do when you LOVE your outfit.

No excuses for motherhood getting in the way either. Floral prints disguise sick and food marks, Kimonos are simple and easy to wear when breastfeeding and can double up as a cover up.  And as for footwear?? No heels posted on here, all flats and practical. Now go and get ready for your best season yet.

And if you ever want any help just holler! x

It’s Summer Festival time and it has never looked so good, this is mainly because we don't all have to be as rebellious as we once were, we can now take the kids! This means the grown ups have fun, the kids have fun and we can all get messy and let our hair down.

BUT the big question still prevails “What to wear?” This is even more of an important question when you have children to pack for. Less is more and layering is what's needed rather than individual outfits that don't mix and match.

One MAIN thing that I’d like to say above anything else, a jumpsuit is a total No No! However practical it may sound just think of the porta loos… who wants to get any clothing on the floor of a porta loo. Now if you’re thinking what I'm thinking, a dress is obviously the best option and there are some wonderful options of midi and just above the knee dresses around. These can then be layered with knitwear and a raincoat and even worn over jeans - it's a massive fashion trend, hoorah!!! (yes a dress over jeans… don't believe me? Put it into Pinterest)

Bum bags

Bum bags and rucksacks are so on trend right now and I know that if I said that to you two years ago you'd of had none of it, but honestly it’s now a thing. River Island has the most brilliant bum bag with mini mirrors and pom poms in all colours, this is good because you can go simple or monochrome with the outfit and then use accessories as your colouring.

Utility Jackets

Utility jackets are a massive deal this season, in fact I was talking with a client about how this replaces the old fashioned cardigan for this season. You want a little something to take the chill off but you also want something lightweight and easy to pack. There are some fabulous options around, I’m so in love with my sequinned one from Zara, but most high street stores have them, River Island, Top Shop and ASOS. There are a few smaller brands on Instagram offering some fabulous alternatives too. I love one by Nomaz Boutique that simply reads, ‘I’m with the hippies’

Footwear will forever be an issue but I really don't think you can go wrong with two essential items, HUNTER wellies and a pair of Haviaianas. However if like me you want a bit of bling then I highly recommend Holster, like Havaianas they are waterproof but they have the added bonus of bling. All three footwear options do mini me versions too so the kids can join in the fashion fun with mum.

There is one thing you can guarantee will be an instant outfit hit and it's a perfect pair of sunglasses. I always tell clients, if you can find a trendy pair that don't cost much and that you won’t be too sad about if you loose, this can be the making of your festival outfit. It covers your face when you don't want to wear make-up and shields your eyes from the sun. Try Topshop for some trend inspired disposable shades.

It’s as though retailers knew we were getting fed up of not having a waterproof option to choose from. Most brands have options online but my forever love will be one that's transparent. Mainly because you can see your outfit underneath and you don't have to compromise on colour options.

Summer Holidays

It’s SO close you can smell the salt and Rosé in the air, you can feel the sand in your babies nappy, nappy bag and beyond. It even makes its way back to the UK in some form or another...

Anyway, Summer Holiday time!

Here is a little write up of tricks I’ve learnt along the way to make it as fun and hassle free as possible. Being a new mum on holiday is a daunting thought but it need not be, here are a few things to consider:

If you're spending all day and everyday by the pool/beach you really don’t need to pack much. Avoid taking loads of kids day clothes and make room for pre-mixed mini bottles of milk (a total holiday lifesaver).

Buy an old fashioned water and Milton tablet steriliser and load the bucket with the mini-bottles of milk and Milton tablets, don’t pack nappies for a week - buy them when you get there, same applies for baby wipes.

Pack Calpol Sachets as you always need those bad boys when you can’t get hold of any!

Buy mini oil cloth bags, like the ones in Cath Kidston. They are waterproof and sandproof.  I’ve always loved this in my baby/beach bag, you can divide them up as you wish, one for cash and cards, one for calpol etc and one for nappies and wipes. A total must have.

Finally, a paddling pool! I’m not kidding.

If you think you can buy one when you get to your destination do that, but the plan is, get to the beach, find a spot under an umbrella, blow up the paddling pool and mummy/daddy and baby take turns walking to the sea and back to fill the paddling pool. Result is, one little one who is happy now playing in the paddling pool while mummy lays back and enjoys 5 mins peace, whilst sunbathing and keeping an eye on the children. Everyone’s happy.

Now things that you MUST pack...

Great fitting swimwear:

Once you become a mum I really do believe in buying good quality swimwear, not only does it work for your body, it makes you feel more confident being half naked in a different country surrounded by strangers.

Kaftans and cover-ups are a must with kids.

Maxi Dresses, little white Boho dresses or an oversized t-shirt and denim shorts, all things you need while forever running to the hotel room, local ice cream shop, toy shop, perfume and cosmetics shop (you know where to find me if I say I’ll grab the kids and ice cream)

A great beach towel:

Nothing makes your little beach or pool spot more heavenly than a fabulous beach towel. I was recently introduced to ‘You Me and The Dream’ A wonderful luxury local company run by two amazing Mum Bosses Jo and Kelly selling the most divine round beach towels. Me and Lilly have matching Flamingos (Paradiso).

Mine is a towel and hers a cute poncho. The towels are available on-line and Kitch Clothing in Tunbridge Wells.

Playsuits have been around for a few seasons now but I feel the force is stronger than ever. So many fabulous styles around this season, I’ve loved the ones in Warehouse and Massimo Dutti. A great answer to an outfit in one, that can be dressed up or down, worn with flip flops or heels, bling or no bling. What did we do before they came about?

Espadrille platforms are a big love of mine this summer. Trendy but practical, it takes a few minutes to get used to the sensation of a one level platform but after a while you’ll see they are the comfiest shoe ever.

Layered Necklaces:

I am loving the choker trend! Not tried it yet? Try layering. It's actually a softer approach. Start with a small choker, then layer another necklace that sits in the dip of your collar bone, one a bit lower and if you dare a long one as well. Instant game changer for your summer holiday wardrobe. However, don’t do what I recently did and wear this look to the airport, security disaster!

Mama TREATS by Victoria Genevieve

Hi Mum’s the Word mamas,

I am so excited to be working with Mum’s the Word, to bring you all the latest news on the fashion and style front. Just because we are mums, it doesn’t mean we have to dress like one!

My name is Victoria, I have two children and I am addicted to fashion and shopping, which is handy as I have been a Personal Stylist and Personal Shopper for the past 11 years running my own business Victoria Genevieve Styling.

I’m a soccer mom in my so called 'free time' supporting my son's football ambitions and a neurotic ingredient checker for my coeliac daughter who has been diagnosed since she was 11 months old. Sounding like the opening for Mum’s Anonymous - I’ll move on to the fun stuff.

I recently had the pleasure of being invited to London Fashion Weekend to view the fabulous Sarah Baily Bags. I was first introduced to the brand and Sarah when she was modelling one of her metallic ‘Girl Gang’ leather jackets which I instantly loved, the rest of her collection is just as cool and fabulous. I could quite easily take the lot home.

Her concept that 'Luxury can be fun too’ is evident in her choice of bright and metallic leathers, she also has a clever use of animal print but what gets me is her wording...

Stolly bolly cropped2.jpg

She has got an Ab Fab collection of clutch bags, need I say more? Blunt and to the point, I couldn’t tell you which one I love most. Maybe the one that says “Stolly and Bolly” but most definitely the one that reads “Why the F**k can’t I have fun all the time” which is exactly what I think every time I manage to sneak away for a night out with friends and leave hubby holding the fort!

I’m definitely in love with the Girl Gang luxury leather goods and I’m sure you will be too.

Remember, what you wear reflects how you feel - so don't settle with 'that'll do' attitude...get on Pinterest and start working on looks you like and get re-creating, but if you need a bit more help you can always give me a shout.
