Hooray it’s time to start thinking of blue skies and that yellow circle in the sky, its spring time in the shops and its shaping up to be a beautiful season of florals, bights, relaxed linen and bum bags. Sounds eclectic right? Let me decode it all for you...
This season ‘The Dress” is most definitely the must have item and to make the look more appropriate (for our cooler Spring climate in the UK) we are encouraged to layer them over jeans. It’s a very 90’s look but Topshop have mastered this perfectly on mannequins and on their on-line campaign. Whether you go for a midi floral, animal print, black and white spots or a 90’s style silk slip, a dress is a MUST - which is fabulous news for me as I personally love a dress! Why? Because it is an outfit all in one, you just put it on and go.
I talked about this trend last year and it's still making a big impact. If you think it reminds you of days gone by (that maybe you’d rather forget) try to think of it as a perfect answer to a mini backpack. Let’s be fair, we didn’t think we’d all be loving a backpack as much as we do right now either did we? I know… and now I can’t cope without mine.
Huge Round Baskets
The basket bag is a summer ‘must have’ accessory and this season they come in all shapes and sizes. This year I am loving the round basket bag and Zara have this one that is just divine. Although very big, it’s fab for carrying all your kids stuff around as well as your own.
The best way to personalise a basket bag is with a silk scarf tied casually on the handle, and the best way to enjoy a basket (and not end up in a mess) is to keep all of your personal odds and ends in smaller bags inside
If you have the budget Anya Hindmarch have the most divine little bags for odds and ends, but if that’s out of your price bracket Katie Loxton has gorgeous little pouch bags which you can take out and also use as a clutch bag too.
I can’t finish without a mention of ‘THE TRAINER’. Last year we saw trainers come onto the footwear podium, knocking the humble ballet pump to the floor. This season the trainer has gone even bolder and back to its 90’s roots. Think Old School trainers, think Nike Air Max, or these from Kurt Geiger
No matter which way you look at it this season is easy to wear, perhaps bold and nostalgic but as long as ‘comfort’ and ‘keeping it simple’ is key we can’t complain. Have a try on and keep me posted!
