What time did you wake up this morning?
6.30am to the sound of ‘Mummmmyy Miiiilllllkkkk!!!’
What was your very first thought of the day?
How many days ‘til Friday...and I probably shouldn’t have had that glass of wine last night!
What are your 3 essentials for getting up, out and at 'em?
A Strong coffee.
A good hair day (the Tweenie not me) else it’s hell.
A good concealer and liquid blusher. I’ve just found a fab blog by an amazing make-up artist that gives away all her beauty secrets to achieving that fresh faced look in a rush! Can’t work miracles but it’s definitely made a difference to my routine:
Describe a typical working morning.
There’s no ‘typical’ morning really but Monday was an exciting one! I met with my client at 10am to show her the concept for her kitchen diner. It’s a huge space and a pretty nerve racking brief being one of those beautiful Decimus Burton houses.
Then straight onto a working lunch at the Black Dog whilst I started sourcing tiles, flooring, lighting, fixtures and fittings etc and getting my contractor booked in for the works! Lastly, a bit of back-office – which included losing my life on Instagram for a bit too long! Actually planning some photoshoots on recent projects (two hairdressers - Andrew Morley & Leigh Roberts Salon and a Victorian house I finished last year). Thought about logging expenses before getting distracted on Instagram again!
Your perfect local lunch spot would be...
Black Dog of course! Best coffee and brunch and one we designed a couple of years ago. I work from here or the’ Fine Grind’ when I need to get away from my four walls!
The happiest moment in your day?
Cuddles and snuggles at bed-time with the kids.
The hardest moment in your day?
Sometimes worrying if I can get my sh** together and get through the’ to do list’ whilst pleasing everyone (this is mostly impossible of course). All with having to go on a massive diversion between school and nursery with Grosvenor Bridge being closed!
#1 tip for juggling work and family life?
Don’t beat yourself up. Say ‘no’ to work things occasionally. It was only when I went on Maternity that I realised people will actually wait if they like your work enough. That still shocks the hell out of me!
Most overused word of the day?
Once the kids are in bed I...
...cook for the whole street, this is my wind down so I literally make a meal of it. If I didn't rush round so much all of the time I’d be the size of a house. On Friday’s I cook a few curries, I’m a Brummie so I think it’s in my genes!
Top 3 local gems?
Bedgebury in the Summer
Hever Castle at Christmas
Frampton’s, loving the relaxed vibe there
Best piece of advice for fellow Mum's...
Love what you do and try not to feel guilty about juggling. Theres no magic scenario to getting the right balance, it doesn’t exist. One week you’ll feel you’ve nailed it and the next it will all come crashing down magnificently. But to the kids it’s nothing that a chocolate hob-nob can’t cure at the school/nursery gate!
