I can't believe you are 4 months old already. You have brought us so much joy, since the moment we found out I was pregnant. You are the happiest baby I've ever known, you smile when you wake up, when you go to sleep, and whenever we look at you. I didn't think it was possible to love anyone as much as we love you.
When you grow up, I want you to know that we will support you with whatever you want to do (within reason...joke!) We all make mistakes, me and your father certainly have over the years, and I want you to know that you can tell us anything. Life as an adult is hard at times, and we want you to know that we will always be there for you.
Please don't compare yourself to others. Everyone does it, and all it does is make you feel bad about yourself. You are a beautiful (sorry, handsome), lovely, funny boy and you are only 4 months old, so God knows what you'll be like as a grown up!
Please follow your dreams, don't just fall into a job and stay there if it's not what you want.
Please don't be mean to people who love you, once it's been done to you it's hard to forget. Just be nice to people.
Please be kind to animals. I'm sure you will be with us as your parents! If you're kind to them, they'll be kind to you.
Without sounding like the song (very old now), wear sunscreen. Hopefully you have your father's skin and not mine though!
Don't disregard music just because it's old. One day you'll come to appreciate it (some of our favourites are Pink Floyd, The Doors, Led Zeppelin which are even older than us).
Look after your money! Me and your father are terrible with money, so don't be like us!
Visit Vancouver one day to see where we lived, and if you stand at the top of 'The Cut' on Grouse Mountain, you'll be standing where your father proposed to me.
Travel lots, see the world. It's a big world with so much to see. Go to Thailand. Drive across America. Do a skydive, but maybe don't tell me about it until after...
Be proud of your Scottish and English roots. Go and drive round Scotland and visit the places where I grew up. Eat haggis, it's nice I promise! When you're old enough to drink, Irn Bru is the best hangover cure.
Don't let anyone make you feel like you aren't good enough. You are more than good enough. And anyone who says otherwise doesn't deserve to know you.
Above all, know that we both love you more than anything in this world and would do anything for you. Having you is the best thing that's ever happened to us and we are better people because of you.
Lots of love,
