This week on 'Mama Meets' we introduce you to Max Jennings founder of Hoop and Dad to Maya (4) and Marnie (1). Hoop is a free family app that makes it easy to discover great things to do with your kids across the country. From story time at a local library to fun workshops and family shows in London - if there is something happening for kids, you'll be able to find it! Max tells us how he balances life/ work/ bedtimes and bathtimes here...
What time did you wake up this morning?
What was your very first thought of the day?
Lets get moving
What are your 3 essentials for getting up, out and at 'em?
1. Food (I always wake up hungry), 2. Exercise (if I can find the time) 3. My walk to work
Describe a typical working morning.
I'm lucky that my daughter goes to school really close to my office, so it only takes me a few minutes after I've dropped her off to get to my office. Once at work, I always start by updating my to-do lists and prioritising what's on for the day ahead, then I'll start checking in with the rest of the team at Hoop. We're launching in lots of new places at the moment, so a big focus for us right now is getting all the events and activities ready in new locations and having a plan to promote Hoop to new families.
Your perfect local lunch spot would be...
(Without kids) I love Granger & Co in Clerkenwell in London. It's laid back and always welcoming. They do lots of basics really well and the restaurant space itself has stacks of light and beautiful pared back decor. A great place to waste away a few hours. (With kids) Panzo on Exmouth Market, Islington - family-friendly and great pizzas that my daughter loves.
The happiest moment in your day?
Story time once the kids are getting into bed. Anything by Drs Seuss is guaranteed hit.
The hardest moment in your day?
The bit before story time - rushing home for bed & bath time, trying to mentally switch off from a stack of to-do's at work, then wrestling my daughters into their pyjamas and playing sleep roulette with our youngest (will she/won't she settle down by herself tonight).
#1 tip for juggling work and family life?
Get organised. How ever organised you think you are - get even more organised - lists, diary management, always have a plan. Free time is too precious to waste, and kids don't have the patience for you not to have a plan.
Most overused word of the day?
'My youngest daughter has learned the phrase 'one more'- stories, breakfast, cuddles, swings in the playground ... whatever she's just done, she wants ... 'one more'.
Once the kids are in bed I...
Clear up the chaos, cook something that takes less than 40 mins to prepare then chill out with my wife. We love movies, so a good film would be a winning evening. If I'm feeling more energised - I might head out for a quick run.
