Meet the very gorgeous Lucie Farrimond, mama to three boys (William 9, Luke 6 and Jamie 3) and owner of Three Toads Antiques - a family run antiques and salvage business based in Tunbridge Wells. Lucie works with dealers, auctioneers, salvage experts and history lovers to source, research and market beautiful and rare antiques from the whole of the UK and abroad. And why the name? Three Toads is a reference to the coat of arms used by the semi-legendary 4th century Merovingian King Pharamond with whom the family share the name - so Lucie is practically royalty!
What time did you wake up this morning?
What was your very first thought of the day?
What day is it, where has everyone got to be today.
What are your 3 essentials for getting up, out and at 'em?
2 Cups of sugary tea
Make up (lots)
Amelia Jane London hat (since having mastoiditis at the end of October I’m paranoid about washing my hair first thing so hat it is. Not quite sure what I’m going to do in the summer).
Describe a typical working morning.
Due to the nature of my business I don’t ever really have a typical morning. If I’ve got Jamie at home then I buy from live online auctions, research new stock I’ve bought, photograph it, add it to the website and our ebay shop, package up sold items and then pop off to the post office.
If Jamie is at nursery then I go to visit my local auctions, house clearances, reclamation yards, “blokes with barns” perfect for routing around and finding great items. I love the buzz of finding something just right, usually it’s buried in the back. I’ve learned the hard way that going picking wearing ballet flats and a chiffon skirt IS NOT sensible.
Your perfect local lunch spot would be...
The Middlehouse in Mayfield especially for a Sunday roast... option always picked = ALL THE MEATS heaven on a plate.
The happiest moment in your day?
The smiles and hugs from the boys at school pick up time.
The hardest moment in your day?
The half hour after that, getting back into car, driving home in the ridiculous traffic past Bennett, I could go on about this for a while but I won’t! I’ve tried walking but a tired Luke and 1.5 mile walk isn’t a great combination......
#1 tip for juggling work and family life?
Erm...... if you find out could you let me know? I try to plan where I can, but if I can’t then I wing it. I spend a lot of time winging it.
Most overused word of the day?
Begins with F.... and ends with various suffixes
Once the kids are in bed I...
Pour a large glass of wine, eat dinner, hopefully talk to the old man for a bit if he hasn’t got caught up at work, spend a “while” on social media “working”.
Top 3 local gems?
The café in St John’s Park (Yana’s cakes are out of this world),
The Himalayan Garden’s at bluebell time
Bayham Abbey Ruins (so peaceful there it has a magical atmosphere, definitely my “happy place” it’s where I go when I need to think).
Best piece of advice for fellow Mum's...
Don’t worry about what everyone else is doing, always do what is best for you and your family.
