Meet the very gorgeous Emma, owner of illustrated giftware brand Peas-in-a-Pod and Mama to 2 year old Arthur. Emma designs and produces everything in the UK, in small runs, with ranges from printed melamine picnicware to beautiful bone china plates, cushions, greetings cards, art prints and stationery. Emma also works in marketing (@SmallFry_Mktg) and is currently working on a couple of collaboration projects including ‘The Christmas Collective’ a Charity Christmas Shopping event to raise donations for the Pickering Cancer Smile Fund and to champion all the incredible independent businesses and designer makers in and around TW.
What time did you wake up this morning?
What was your very first thought of the day?
Hurrah we all slept through! (Arthur’s been waking at 4am on and off for the last few weeks and my other half doesn’t sleep brilliantly either at times!)
Your perfect local lunch spot would be...
(If the weather is good of course) lunch outdoors in the park (I’m a big fan of picnics) otherwise, the Courtyard Cafe in Rotherfield is lovely.
The happiest moment in your day?
As a mum, storytime before bed is always really special to us and we’ll get through at least four books. For Peas-in-a-Pod it’s always fulfilling orders, making new contacts or doodling away on new ideas.
The hardest moment in your day?
Switching off and going to bed – there are just never enough hours!
#1 tip for juggling work and family life?
Setting reminders on my phone – If I didn’t have this I’d have to-do lists up my arms. Also the Wunderlist app is great for sharing the homelife/kids workload with your other half as you can assign them tasks (best invention ever!) I use them for everything from picking up milk to poopa-scooping the garden and keeping on top of Peas-in-a-Pod and my marketing work.
Most overused word of the day?
It’s a toss up between ‘Please’ (trying to ingrain manners in the 2 yr old and appeal to my other half’s better nature) and ‘Now’ when things get a bit stressed or we’re running late!
Once the kids are in bed I...
Crack on with work!
Top 3 local gems?
Beals Barn Cafe and Nursery in Wadhurst – gorgeous seasonal food, super friendly staff, beautiful setting overlooking Bewl Water and kiddie friendly – ahidden little gem.
Llama Park in Ashdown Forest for a tonne of fun – they have the cutest reindeers and donkeys!
Present Health Yoga Centre in Goods Station Rd for a weekly dose of Haitha hot yoga perfect for de-stressing and detoxing.
Best piece of advice for fellow Mum's...
To find sanctuary in your girl gang! No woman is an island and having a network of people you can count on when times are tough or chaotic is priceless.
